OMERA at the UCIMU Awards 2026: Matteo Cerbaro honoured for mechatronics innovation
A significant achievement for Matteo Cerbaro, who has been awarded the Special Prize for Business Impact at the 50th edition of the UCIMU Awards, thanks to a dissertation project developed in collaboration with OMERA. This achievement highlights the bond between university, business, innovation and sustainability.

On the 16th of October 2026, as part of the 35th edition of BI-MU, the international biennial exhibition dedicated to machine tools, robotics and automation, the awards ceremony for the 2026 UCIMU Prizes took place at fieramilano Rho. These prizes are organised by the UCIMU Foundation to value the best dissertations in the machine tool sector.
Among the seven young talents honoured is Matteo Cerbaro, a master’s graduate in Product Innovation Engineering at the University of Padua, who received the Special Prize for Business Impact for his dissertation:
"Revamping of the triple arm of an automatic trimming-beading machine: a mechatronic solution "
This project, developed in collaboration with OMERA and with the academic support of Professor Iacopo Tamellin, deals with a practical aspect of industrial innovation: the technological modernisation of a machine through a mechatronic approach, by integrating expertise in mechanical design and automation.
The project was developed at OMERA under the coordination and tutoring of Eng. Matteo Lanaro, Head of OMERA Technical Department, and Mr. Luca Laghetto, Head of Design for Trimming-Beading Machines.
This cooperation has allowed combining the knowledge gained during the university studies with the technical and design experience acquired in the company, tackling a practical application of industrial innovation.
From a degree dissertation to a professional path
This recognition takes on a particular meaning, especially in light of Matteo’s career path.
The collaboration with OMERA, which began with an internship and the development of his dissertation, went on beyond his university studies, leading to a permanent position. Today, Matteo is part of the OMERA team, continuing his professional growth in the industrial sector.
His experience serves as a concrete example of how collaboration between universities and businesses can foster not only the development of applied technological projects, but also the enhancement of skills and the integration of young engineers into the professional world.
Innovation and sustainability, starting from skills
The awarded project fits into an industrial context in which technological innovation and sustainability are playing an increasingly important role.
The concept of revamping, namely the technological upgrading of existing machines and systems, points to an approach focused on valorising resources and the evolution of productive solutions.
Alongside the technological aspect, Matteo’s path also highlights another aspect of sustainability: the social dimension, linked to training, the transfer of knowledge and the creation of long-term career opportunities.
These principles are also reflected in OMERA’s commitment to responsible industrial development, in which innovation and the development of people go hand in hand.
Recognition for talent and cooperation
The Special Award for Business Impact recognises the value of research that faces concrete challenges in the production world, highlighting the importance of dialogue between university education and industry.
The entire OMERA team would like to congratulate Matteo Cerbaro on this prestigious award, and to thank the University of Padua, Professor Iacopo Tamellin and the UCIMU Foundation for their contribution to fostering young talents.
This achievement recognises skills, commitment and the ability to transform an educational experience into a path of innovation and professional development.
